Winning a state high school championship in any sport is quite the accomplishment. In fact, it is a rare thing for a high schooler to be part of a title team. With a limited amount of time in high school, it takes quite the combination of skill, timing and luck for any team, in any sport, to put together the sort of winning season that ends with the big trophy.
Once all the cheering has ended, the role of a champion takes on a new meaning once the seniors from that team have graduated and moved on. When the new season begins the following year, the returning players and new additions must battle through a gauntlet of games as the reigning and defending state champions. With the regular and post-seasons completed for the Curtis Viking basketball team, a few of the players were given the honor of participating in the Cloud Nine South Sound All-Star Game held Friday, March 18 at Auburn High School. Aushanti Potts-Woods, Glenn Jordan and John Moore suited up for the 4A SPSL South All-Stars as they faced the 4A Narrows All-Star squad. The Narrows kept the game close, but they were unable to keep up with Potts-Woods and his teammates as the 4A SPSL took a 111-102 victory.
