Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier has declared the County is operating under an inclement weather situation with limited operations. As a result, County offices will open for administrative business, but non-essential personnel are allowed up to two hours to arrive at work locations, and two hours to commute home. Where possible, and with a supervisor’s permission, employees will work from home.
Residents are encouraged to call County departments before traveling to ensure adequate staffing. Current updates for many County departments may be found online at Pierce County’s website, as well as at several County Facebook or Twitter channels.
Superior Court Operations
Superior Court functions at the County City Building, Remann Hall (Juvenile Court) and Western State Hospital will be open during normal business hours today. Not all departments may be open at normal business hours, depending on driving/weather conditions, but the court will be open. Judicial Officers understand not everyone can make their court time, so they have the intention of being flexible.
Due to the severity of the weather event, new jurors are excused from coming in on Monday, Feb. 11. Jurors who are already assigned to a department should follow the instructions provided to them last week. Other than jurors, if you feel you cannot make it at your scheduled court time, whether you are an attorney, defendant, witness, litigant, etc., you must call the court, using the contact information listed below:
- If you are currently in trial or scheduled for a hearing in front of a judge, contact the judicial assistant for that department.
- If you have a hearing set before the Commissioners, please contact the Commissioner Services Department at (253)798-6697.
- For all other criminal matters, contact Criminal Administration at (253)798-2988.
- For all matters at Remann Hall (Juvenile Court), please contact Juvenile Court Administration at (253)798-7900.

Superior Court employees are to check the message on the superior court employee line for inclement weather updates. Staff are encouraged to report to work at their scheduled time if it is safe to do so, even though there is a two-hour grace period in the morning and a two-hour grace period in the afternoon from the Executive’s Office.
District Court Operations
The District Court Presiding Judge has declared an inclement weather event. The County-City Building will be open with very limited operations. The District Court is implementing a 2-hour late start, which means employees who can safely report to work should do so. Employees will be released 2 hours early.
All scheduled hearings are canceled for today and will be rescheduled. The in-custody video calendars will proceed.
The Auditor’s Office at the Annex will be open to the public between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. No vehicle licensing is available. The State Department of Licensing is closed for the day. The Election Center will be open between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m
